First Post: Introductions

I have been using my baseball blog, the mostly defunct 6-4-2, as a dumping ground for things that should really go elsewhere. Having been burned by such activities previously, I am keeping my political commentary here. I had been using Facebook's Notes feature, but it has a number of disadvantages compared to Blogger, mainly that formatting appears to be very haphazardly maintained, and is extremely buggy (hyperlinks in particular seem to be susceptible to breakage if a post ever gets edited).

About what I plan on posting here: lately, I've been thinking a lot about feminism, and in particular, what is called "third-wave" feminism, or what Christina Hoff Sommers labeled "gender feminism" in her 1995 book, Who Stole Feminism? Also, thoughts on Obamacare, libertarian politics, and occasional dog stuff. The links on the sidebar are incomplete at the moment, and will probably get expanded over time. Comments will be moderated, as I have had problems with this at my other blog(s).

Welcome!

  1. I look forward to your posts, it's an interesting mix of topics but all linked through dogma and the greater culture war. I think we often fail to see that the individual issues that arise within sub-cultures (be they the dog world or a circle of facebook friends or even within an office, etc.) are in many ways the larger "culture war" writ small.

I agree with your choice to move away from FB given the limitations there (hello no search and horrid means of trying to find past posts and conversations). So many times I recall a few month old conversation on FB that I'd like to go back to only to find that it's unintentionally hidden from view given their ever-changing and cryptic algorithm on what gets shown and when, even when you try and look at all of someone's posts.

Maybe you can convince David E. to blog as well. He likewise writes some great posts that get lost in the black hole that is Facebook.

  2. Glad to see you back in my newsreader! I agree that Facebook is a lousy place to do any substantive blogging. I look forward to reading your posts, and I hope that you will still weigh in on baseball and related matters as well.

By the way, the "subscribe to posts" link seems messed up. When I click it, all I get is a page of unformatted text.

  3. Correction re the subscribe to comments link: it's straight HTML.
